Remembering Denny Bartlett
Dennis Arthur Bartlett
Born - July 1, 1948 - Los Angeles, CA
Passed - July 28, 2006 - Newport Beach, CA
Celebration of Life was held, August 3, 2006 at the Sea Cliff Country Club in Huntington Beach, CA
Denny was born in Los Angeles in 1948. At that time the family was living in Compton, moved to Downey and thereafter moved to Anaheim, where they lived for many years. Denny attended Loara High School in Anaheim where he was a member of the varsity golf and tennis team. While in high school, he was also a charter member of the Snow Valley Race Club and later bacame a ski instructor at Snow Valley and eventually a PSIA Certified Ski Instructor. After graduating high school in 1966, he attended Fullerton Junior College and served in the National Guard for six years.
Denny enjoyed drag boat racing with his dad. He was the speedway motorcycle racer known as "Robin Hood" for five years. He quit speedway and began competitive water ski racing. Denny was a World Class waterskier including many Long Beach-to-Catalina races, numerous National Championship wins as a 1/4 mile drag and marathon waterskier. He even travelled to Australia for the World Championships. When Denny wasn't water skiing, he was snow skiing. He was Canadian National Powder Eight Pairs Champion and even attended the World's competition. His true passion was golf (but skiing was right behind) he played at least once a week. On his travels, his golf clubs were always with him.
From 1978 to 1999 Denny worked with his dad at Tortuga Express Tours, where he made many life-long friends. In 1994, after more than three years of serious illness, Denny was lucky enough to receive a liver transplant. The transplant allowed him to resume all his favorite activities, including surfing. Denny met Jeanne on a trip to Whistler in 1996, and were married in 1998. They were blessed with their daughter, Riley in 2001. After leaving Tortuga he worked with Target Sport Adventures, and in 2004 started the Sporting Life (his own business).
He enjoyed being a member of the Long Beach Rec. Park Men's Golf Club (Big Rec). He was a proud member and #1 locker holder at the Sea Cliff Country Club. And of course . . . #1 DAD.
Denny is survived by his wife Jeanne, his daughter Riley, father Art Bartlett and Dianne; mother Jeanne Mixon; in-laws Charlie and Mary Parnell; sisters Bev Brown and Darelyn Maas; sister-laws Barbara Burke, Audrey Parnell, Robin Parnell and Marybeth DeAngelis; and many neices and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, a trust fund for daughter Riley Morgan Bartlett has been opened at the Orange County Teachers Federal Credit Union P.O. Box 11547, Santa Ana, CA 92711.
Truly sad news.
I skied with Denny in the Powder 8's qualifier at Lake Louise a number of
years ago and also skied with Denny at Marmot Basin in Jasper. I will
remember him fondly and thanks for passing this news on - sad as it is.
Kind regards,

I am absolutely crushed with this devastating news. I am so saddened to hear. I called Kenny Cutcliffe just moments ago. I am truly shocked.

Such devastating news about Denny.
What a beacon of light in this world he has been…for us all!
I’m very sad.
Let’s all count our blessings!

I have known him 28 yrs and worked with him at Tortuga Express for 7ys and was called right away on his death. Jeannie his wife e-mail's that his daughter Riley misses daddy so much. I have told Jeannie that I would help her with Denny's accounts and donate 50% of the profit to Riley's college fund. I will miss Denny very much and saw him in Beaver Creek as we worked together with some groups last winter.

This is tragic...Denny and I spoke many times this spring and early summer.
I guess you just never know what's going to happen or when. I thought he
was a good guy and I really enjoyed the opportunity of knowing him.
Thanks very much for sharing with me the story of a really good person.
