As
predicted, the ski resorts in the Rockies received several
inches of snow this past weekend and more is on the
way. Most resorts received 6-12 inches. Check out the

This
month’s special resorts: Winter Park/Copper Mountain
Winter
Park is one of the largest ski and snowboard areas in
North America. It offers a total of 2,886 skiable acres,
including Vasquez Cirque, lift-serviced but essentially
a backcountry experience for advanced skiers and boarders.
The yearly average snowfall of 370 inches makes Winter
Park a favorite resort for skiers of every level. The
main mountain — designed for intermediates and
beginners — is interconnected with its sister
mountain, Mary Jane, home to some of the most challenging
bump runs anywhere. Big things are planned for Winter
Park. The Intrawest Corporation has taken over the resort
management and are planning $6.5 million in improvements.
The state has widened the road over Berthoud Pass to
allow easier access to the resort. Some of the first
improvements are a complete renovation of the day lodge,
a new super pipe and several terrain park enhancements.
The
Intrawest Corporation also runs Copper Mountain. Life
is relaxed, the accommodations comfortable and well-suited
for families or friends, and the skiing well-balanced
for the pleasure of all. You can find the most challenging
slopes or delightful intermediate runs as well as an
extensive learn-to-ski program if you're just starting
out. With a 9,700 foot base elevation, Copper Mountain
is one of the highest resorts in Colorado — that's
why the snow's so light and the views so great. When
the day is done, check out The Village at Copper pedestrian
village. Experience the nightlife, bistros, coffee shops
and restaurants, or just hang out and relax in a lodge
that seems sculpted from the landscape. With massive
timbered beams, foundations of boulders and fireplaces
of stone, you’re at a back-country retreat that’s
just steps away from everything. Still more options
abound at the new West Lake District. A winter wonderland,
adjacent to the Village, complete with an ice-skating
rink and surrounded by a boardwalk hosting shops, bars
and great activities. Quiet and relaxed yet with all
the amenities and superb skiing, Copper Mountain is
ideally suited for everyone.
