Winterkids

History of WinterKids

WinterKids began in 1997 as a skier development program. Based in Portland, Maine, WinterKids is now a nonprofit organization creating opportunities for youth, their families, and their communities to engage in a variety of healthy, outdoor winter exercise. WinterKids is proud to partner with National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) to bring the WinterKids Outdoor Learning Curriculum to educators throughout the country. SkiTops, the ski tour operators association, has also invested valuable resources to support WinterKids.

WinterKids Outdoor Learning Curriculum

The WinterKids Outdoor Learning Curriculum is a proven marketing tool designed for use with educators of grades kindergarten through twelve. The WinterKids Outdoor Learning Curriculum is an innovative approach to snow sports promotion that combines skier / snowboarder development and community relations with student health and education.

Ski Area Benefits

The WinterKids Outdoor Learning Curriculum:

  • is an established marketing tool providing a non-commercial entrée into schools- builds new skiers and snowboarders
  • creates more winter sports enthusiasts- enlists teachers as ski area allies and representatives
  • connects resorts with kids who are interested in snow sports
  • partners nicely with other programs such as ski school and other educational programs
  • alters the growing trend of winter inactivity in the United States
